A student of society, preparing for the law.
Since 2023 I've volunteered at the Mehriban Women and Children Shelter in Baku, which
supports survivors of domestic violence. I started by sorting donations and packing
support kits for families. Later, with the staff, I helped write material for children about
personal boundaries and the difference between an ordinary argument and control.
I research gender norms, too. My lead-authored paper in the
American Journal of Student Research looks at how Instagram comments on Azerbaijani
news police women's autonomy. And for two years I helped measure the results of
Women Forward Azerbaijan, an economic empowerment programme for 420 women in 18 communities.
At school I'm the lead ombudsman, a class representative and a member of the debate club.
I want to study law because the problems I keep running into (stalking, coercion,
cyberbullying, unequal work) need people who can argue them in court, too.
I also play guitar. I've studied at Music School No. 35 since 2022, I've taught free
guitar lessons for three years, and my modeling and performance earnings have paid for
instruments at seven rural schools.
